It should be noted that the original PC ports of these titles did feature some minor alterations and content updates (especially Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, which featured quite a bit of new content in comparison to its PS2 predecessor) but it’s a little disappointing that these ports are little more than just that. While these editions have been updated to easily run on modern PCs, it doesn’t appear that they’ve been upgraded in any other substantial ways. Based on early impressions, it seems that these versions of the games uploaded to GOG are basically the same PC ports that were released for the platform in the early 2000s. Of course, some fans will recall that Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 did previously appear on PC. In other news, Konami’s eFootball just had a disastrous launch.Following a leak by The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee, GOG has confirmed that Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, and a Konami collection of classic Contra and Castlevania games are now available via their store. A complete remake will give the game a facelift and a chance for Virtuos to introduce new features, mechanics, and next-generation capabilities to this classic title. Metal Gear Solid 3 was last seen as a port in the Nintendo 3DS, while remaster collections are also available on home consoles. While it’s not going to be an entirely new game, hearing that a remake of one of the most critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid games is on the way is definitely great news. On the other hand, they also report that Virtuos will be working on a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake.

Instead, anonymous sources tell VGC that Konami plans to put out remasters for MGS titles. After all, Konami has already proven themselves incapable of replicating Hideo Kojima’s magic with their critically-panned Metal Gear Survive. While new games are reportedly in the makes for Silent Hill and Castlevania, it’s all remasters and remakes for Metal Gear Solid. However, this does not exactly mean that Konami will be making new games in all of these iconic franchises.
